Head Immobilization

Head Immobilization

Patients who will be treated in the head or neck area are immobilized using customized masks. The masks are made from a lightweight plastic which, upon heating, molds to the patient's face, head and neck. The mask is placed over the patient each day prior to treatment. The area around the eyes is cut away so the patient can see clearly. For some patients who are treated in a sitting position, further immobilization is required. In these cases a custom bite block is created to further mobilize the head during proton treatment.
