Expressions of Thanks From A Proton Treatment Patient

The following are excerpts from letters sent to Loma Linda University Medical Center
"In July 1998, I successfully finished my proton treatment for prostate cancer. My PSA was 5.4 and now is 0.4. As a healthy 66-year-old man, the news about cancer had devastated me. Then came the big decision: surgery, radiation, or another alternative. Because of the kindness and understanding of my doctor at Loma Linda University Medical Center, I chose proton therapy. If I become a multimillionaire, I won’t have enough money to pay the people who work in the radiation department for their understanding, moral support, and professionalism. They are all wonderful human beings. When you are in trouble and find people like those at Loma Linda, you are the luckiest person in the world."

"There are some wonderful things about Loma Linda. But the best thing for me (as the husband of a patient) was my interaction with the lady who answered my question at the desk in the lobby when I was trying to find out where they had put my wife after the transfer from our local hospital. She stood up from her computer, took my hand, and said a prayer for my wife right then and there in the lobby. Thereafter, each time I entered the hospital when she was at the desk, she asked how my wife was doing."

"Recently, a team of doctors, nurses, and technicians performed a heart procedure on my wife in an area where it had never been performed. All staff were highly trained experts and dedicated to saving my wife’s life. My wife has been under care at Loma Linda University Medical Center for the past seven years. Because of their expertise and dedication to her health, she continues to live a quality life. We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the entire team for successfully completing the life-saving heart procedure."

"This is the first time I ever needed the services of such a magnificent institution as Loma Linda. My experience during the treatment of my husband, who was admitted for emergency brain surgery, was almost overwhelming at first until I realized what tremendous and solicitous care he was receiving. Our family was always allowed in, and the friendliness and concern of nurses and therapists were very welcome through the trying times of his confinement. My heartfelt thanks and that of our family go to all the wonderful people who took charge of the situation in whatever capacity they were involved. I felt as if I was in a big family of friends.
