Foresters Raise Funds for Proton Treatment Center

For the past three decades, members of the International Order of Foresters, High Court of Southern California and Hawaii, have held bake and garage sales, gone to flea markets, and organized golf tournaments--all in the fight against cancer. The money they raise--more than $700,000 so far--goes to support research at the Loma Linda University Proton Treatment Center.

High Chief Ranger Steve Micklas and a group of 100 Foresters made a symbolic check presentation for this amount at a luncheon held on Sunday, June 3.

Members of the group traveled from as far away north as Bakersfield and as far south as San Diego for tours of the Proton Treatment Center and a special luncheon.

"We want to thank each of you for... the profound impact that your charitable contributions have made in terms of the research and the lives that are being impacted," J. Lynn Martell, DMin, vice president for advancement, LLUMC, said during the luncheon.

Following the check presentation, Albin Grohar, PhD, executive director of advancement for LLU, presented Mr. Micklas with an award to be displayed in the Forester offices.

"I am convinced that those in humanity that exhibit their power to give are in some small measure exhibiting what the nature of God is all about," Dr. Grohar said at the conclusion of the luncheon. "And I can tell you, you are a grand part of that. Thank you so much for what you do. We stand in admiration of you."
