Proton Treatment Center International Advisory Council Members Meet

On November 8 and 9, 2001, members of the Loma Linda University Proton Treatment Center International Advisory Council met for the third time at Loma Linda University Medical Center. The Council is comprised of people from across the country and internationally who have a commitment to advancing proton therapy at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
Council members shared reports of advocacy and philanthropic activities, as well as strategized on specific ways to further advance the Proton Treatment Center. These included holding regional proton patient "alumni" meetings across the United States, conducting educational sessions for prospective patients and health-care professionals, and raising funds to establish research endowments.
James M. Slater, MD, vice chair of the department of radiation medicine, and Jerry D. Slater, MD, chair of the department of radiation medicine, presented information on three current proton research priorities and also gave council members a tour of the Proton Treatment Center.

Lyn Behrens, MBBS, president and chief executive officer of Loma Linda University Medical Center, shared with council members at a dinner hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Slater at their home. "You are vital to expanding research and treatment so even more people can benefit from proton therapy."
